Description: gorgeous frame-off restored '56 Montclair! Red/white with matching interior! Equipped with power steering & brakes, power seat, power windows, and more! Strong 235 horsepower 312ci v8 and merc-o-matic! Cruise in style! Inspired by the Mercury xm-800 concept car that was unveiled at the 1954 chicago auto show, the Montclair came into being for 1955 and brought with it a new flair in the full-size car category. The following year, fomoco introduced the lifeguard design enhancements that improved safety as well as a standard abundance of chrome and opulent two-tone paint schemes. While Mercury was admittedly going through a transition phase of deciding whether to associate more with lincoln or ford, they seemed to combine both the sportiness and luxury of both, all while maintaining a reasonable price tag. We are very excited to offer this 1956 Mercury Montclair sport coupe! The car is finished in a beautiful two-tone scheme of carousel red and classic white over a matching red/white vinyl interior! The car is fitted with a date-code correct 312ci v8 with 9.00:1 compression and single 4-barrel carburetor with dual exhaust, good for 235 horsepower! This engine required the three-speed merc-o-matic, which remains in place. Options on this car are extensive and include power steering, power brakes, power windows, power seat, radio with rear seat speaker, clock (functional), stainless steel rocker panel moldings, rear stone guards, fender skirts, windshield washer, heater/defroster, and Mercury' script door sills! The car rides on an attractive set of Mercury head hubcaps with 7.10-15 bf goodrich silvertown 4-ply tires! This car was the recipient of a frame-off restoration and shows very well from every angle. Although done several years back, the paint and chrome both continue to appear shiny, thick and smooth to the touch. With originality in mind, the car retains its original, first year offering 12v charging system and fomoco tinted side glass. The engine compartment has been nicely detailed, while not being over the top. The undercarriage shows a healthy layer of undercoating but upon looking closer, you will find many new suspension, steering & brake components, as well as new body mounts, bushings, brake hoses, and exhaust system. The car remains fully functional and very drivable today with only 2,390 miles since completion. This is a car that is ready for a multi-hour road trip to a car show, where it will likely draw a lot of attention and perhaps take home some honors. It is comfortable at interstate speeds and even the Mercury head in the back seat lights up as it should. Price: $54,900 |
