Description: 1960 Mercedes-Benz 220SE cabriolet chassis no. 128 030 10 003526 rare 220SE "ponton" cabriolet, one of only 1112 hand built examples, striking colors and presentation, desirable column shift manual transmission, great open touring Mercedes-Benz model, produced from october, 1958 to november 1960 in very limited numbers, the 220SE, was the last of the "ponton" series with design cues from the Mercedes-Benz 180 sedan. The 220SE features a unitized body/frame construction and fully independent suspension. Fitted with a 2.2 l straight 6 engine, aluminum head, overhead camshaft, and bosch mechanical fuel injection. Only 1,112 open top examples were ever produced worldwide. According to a copy of the original Mercedes-Benz datacard, this particular 220SE is a very late august 1960 example built to north american specifications in white grey over red leather upholstery. Paired with a black convertible top and red leather boot cover, this fuel-injected cabriolet makes an excellent candidate for the weekend driver and respectable base for continued enjoyment out of the box. The finish of the cabriolet displays a well-cared for older restoration with straight body panels and good fitment. The engine bay and boot are nicely detailed and overall very tidy and kempt. Care has been taken to preserve the originality of woodwork adorning the cockpit, complemented by supple leather, becker europa high fidelity radio and wool carpeting. The date stamped original spare assembly and jack remain within the nicely trimmed luggage compartment. This se comes equipped with the more desirable standard, column-shift manual clutch, power-assisted brakes and steering. Other accessories include hella driving lamps, along with a complete set of workshop manuals, parts manuals, mercedes catalogs, service booklet, years of registrations, original vanity california "blue plates" as well as a copy of the original Mercedes-Benz datacard. This 220SE cabriolet is remarkably versatile as a runabout or tourer while best representing the ponton era for Mercedes-Benz.
