Chevrolet's 1961 Corvette featured many characteristics that would be absent on next year's model including the 283ci v8, dual quad carburetion and contrasting coves with trim strip surround. It would prove to be the first for aluminum radiators, under bumper exhaust, four taillight rear end and aluminum transmission cases on 4-speed manual cars. Furthermore, the following year would mark the last of a separate rear trunk, solid rear axle and exposed headlights. Those looking for the two-tone style of the later quad headlight c1 generation cars tend to gravitate towards 1961s. All said and done, Chevrolet built 10,939 Corvettes for the model year! We are very excited to offer this 1961 Chevrolet Corvette convertible! The car is one of only 3,368 cars reported to have been ordered with rpo 440 (two-tone paint / contrasting side coves) and one of only 429 said to be finished in black with sateen silver coves and black vinyl top! The extraordinarily handsome exterior is complemented nicely by a red interior! Under the hood is an original, numbers matching cu-coded 283ci v8 with twin four-barrel carburetors producing 270 factory rated horsepower that is paired to the optional four-speed manual transmission! Standard equipment on the car includes a tachometer, seatbelts, sun visors, dual exhaust, carpet, electric clock, outside rearview mirror, windshield washers, courtesy light, temperature-controlled radiator fan, parking brake warning light and the aforementioned aluminum radiator. Optional extras on our example include wonderbar am radio, heat/defrost, posi-traction rear end and whitewall tires! This beautiful Corvette was restored some time back but still shows its superb details in the paint, chrome and interior! Corvette enthusiasts the world over have all witnessed cars with sub-par paint finishes, primarily the result of painters who are not as familiar with fiberglass. That cannot be said about this car! The black paint is about as smooth and deep as you could hope to find on a fiberglass automobile! Similarly, the chrome is in excellent shape and the car proudly wears correct t3 headlamps! Nearly every part of the interior, from seats to carpet, door panels and dash have also been restored to show quality! The engine compartment is authentic, down to the waterslide applied horsepower decals, generator, triangle heads, winters aluminum intake manifold and hardware. The undercarriage is similarly correct with unpainted fiberglass throughout and date stamps visible everywhere they should be.
