You want to show up in a big way? Nothing beats the entrance youll make behind the wheel of this stunningly original 1962 Corvette. Classic styling, a gorgeous color combination, and an attitude that is as casual or as formal as you make it. Black tie or jeans and tee-shirt, an early Corvette is always eager to oblige. We strongly believe thats original paint, which is easier to understand when you realize there are only 19,602 original miles on this awesome vette. Originality is red hot in the market, and this handsome sateen silver roadster hails from the mitchell collection, the company that actually built the c1 fiberglass bodies for gm. Although the all-new sting ray was on the horizon, gm stylists gave the 62 a few tweaks, starting with eliminating the contrasting side cove colors, which gives this one a sleeker, more modern look that takes another step away from the flamboyant 50s. Underneath the softly glowing paint youll find straight 1962 fiberglass, with razor-sharp details stretching from the tail that was a sneak-preview of what was to come the following year. Youd pay a small fortune to restore your car to this level, but an original car has its own appeal because you know that its just the way the factory built it, not over-restored or hacked up. Beautiful bumpers, a racy-looking blacked-out grille, and the slender trim that runs along the tops of the front fenders all give it a uniquely Corvette look. Its not perfect, but its exactly good enough to be the center of attention everywhere it goes and theres nothing wed change on this awesome survivor. Interior color choices were rather limited in 1962, but with a sateen silver Corvette, bright red buckets looks awesome. Again, we have every reason to believe its completely original inside, and the pleated bucket seats still fit well and show very little wear as they snug up under the rear tonneau. That big 3-spoke steering wheel looks right out of a lemans racer framing one of the coolest dashboards this side of a chrysler imperial. Theres even a tach atop the steering column in its own little pod and everything except the clock is fully functional, including the original am radio. Theres also a white convertible top in good condition with no rips and a clear rear window, plus a color-matched removable hardtop. Fans will also note that 1962 was the last year for an actual trunk until the c5 debuted in 1997, so its road-trip-ready with its original red mat and cardboard liner. The 327 cubic inch small block was new for 1962, and this one carries the standard 250 horsepower version. Dressed in a chrome air cleaner that offers cool louvers, as well as a set of stamped steel valve covers, it has an all-business look that instantly says, Corvette. Beautifully preserved and pretty much just as the factory intended, it cackles the way youd want your vintage Corvette to sound, with a lumpy idle and great intake roar from the 4-barrel up top. Rams horn exhaust manifolds certainly contribute to the symphony, feeding a brand new exhaust system that sounds amazing at, say, about 3500 rpm. A 4-speed manual delivers the torque and shifts with that old-school feel and a wonderful subtle gear whine, and the 3.36 gears out back are a wonderful choice between highway and acceleration. Original Corvette wheelcovers with spinners wear correct 6.70x15 bias-ply whitewalls, as it was in 1962. This is a truly exceptional car and if you want one of the very finest unrestored Corvettes in the world, this is it. Already the recipient of some pretty major awards, its the perfect antidote for all the over-restored trailer queens at every ncrs show. Call today! |
