For sale in our chicago showroom is this classic 1964 Chevrolet El Camino. Though many people believe the first coupe utility was the 1957 ford ranchero, but in actuality ford of australia released one in 1934. Gm followed suite in 1935, but the american market would not see one until the release of the ford ranchero in 1957. Chevrolet then responded in 1959. The El Camino was a coupe utility vehicle produced by the Chevrolet division of general motors between 1959-60 and 1964-87. Introduced in the 1959-1960 model years in response to the success of the ford ranchero, its first run lasted only two years. Oddly enough, 1959 is the only year the El Camino would compete against the ford ranchero. Production resumed for the 1964-1977 model years based on the chevelle platform, the a body platform. The El Camino was now more of a car than earlier years. Although based on corresponding Chevrolet car lines, the vehicle is classified and titled in north america as a truck. In spanish, El Camino means the path. The 1964 model was similar to the chevelle forward of the b-pillars and carried both chevelle and El Camino badges, but Chevrolet marketed the vehicle as a utility model and chevelles most powerful engines were not available. Not to worry, this El Camino is powered by a 350 cubic inch v8 engine. This power is then routed through a five speed manual transmission. Putting the rubber to the pavement is a 10-bolt rear end. If the unique styling of this utility vehicle doesnt turn heads, the vibrant screamin yellow paint that drapes all over the exterior surely will. The black vinyl tonneau cover gives just the right contrast to the exterior paint. Lift the cover and look inside for your yourself, it is not hiding a thing. The spray in bed liner looks like it was added yesterday. The bed is surrounded by shiny chrome. The interior color scheme is also keyed to the body color. The black bench seat has yellow accents to compliment the yellow accents on the black door panels. The color coordination doesnt stop there; the floor mats are black with El Camino in yellow. Options include: 200 watt chrome am/fm radio, power steering, seat belts, vinyl interior, radial tires, raised white letter tires, and aluminum/alloy wheels. The 1964 brochure said, Chevrolets new personal pickup makes its debut. Nothing so useful ever looked so good! Until now, this freshly rebuilt El Camino can be yours with one phone call!!!
