Price reduced! All vehicle trades considered, including classics and performance. This is not your everyday first-generation Mustang. This fabulous pro-touring style car has been completely redone with loads of upgrades. Where do you begin with a car like this? Well let's start with the basics. It is a 1965 Ford Mustang that spent much of its life in california. In 2005 it was brought to iowa and put through a multi-year restoration / restomod effort, and has seen only 1,000 miles since. This was a complete nut-and-bolt project; everything on the car was touched. It involved plenty of upgrades and improvements too; t5 transmission, rack and pinion steering, 4-wheel disc brakes, a/c, and much more. It all makes for a far better Mustang than Ford produced 50 years ago. The car was completely disassembled and the body stripped to bare metal. Both quarter panels and valence panels were replaced during this process. The body was stiffened up with welded subframe connectors along with an export brace and monte carlo bar. After prep and priming, everything was painted dupont chromabase spectramaster blue which really makes the car pop. Along with this, all brightwork was replaced including bumpers, bezels, door handles, mirrors, trim, and emblems. Note the stainless steel fender bolts too. All seals, weatherstripping, and plugs are new, as are the battery tray, motor mounts, window rollers, door strikers, and wiring harness. All lenses were replaced and a third brake light was added for safety. Finally, the cragar ss wheels with tri-bar center caps give a great look, while the kelly tires give a great ride. The suspension, brakes, and steering were also redone. The suspension was completely rebuilt front and rear with new springs, bushings, and shock absorbers. The front control arms were also replaced, and new stabilizer bars were added front and rear for better handling. The old manual drum brakes were replaced with four-wheel discs along with a dual reservoir master cylinder and ssbc proportioning valve. All lines and hoses are new as well. And perhaps best of all, the steering was upgraded to a steeroids power rack and pinion setup. This is a huge upgrade over the old Mustang steering box; highly recommended for any old Ford. Under the hood is a beautiful rebuilt 289ci engine with many nice performance parts. The block was hot tanked and magnafluxed, after which it was decked and bored (0.030"). All bearings, rings, and expansion plugs were replaced. The crankshaft was polished and the pistons were replaced, and a high flow oil pump installed. There is an elgin camshaft with new lifters, pushrods, rockers, and a double roller timing set. The cylinder heads were also hot tanked and magnafluxed, and then resurfaced. They received new valves, seats, guides, seals, and springs. Up top is an edelbrock aluminum intake and 600cfm carb with electric choke. Ignition uses an msd electronic distributor. There is also a new water pump, fuel pump, valve covers, plug wires, 110a 1-wire alternator, and a high torque mini starter. Cooling uses a 4-row radiator and stainless steel expansion tank along with a 16" electric fan with gearhead temperature controller. The dual exhaust uses flowtech ceramic coated tri-y headers. Behind the engine is a tremec t5 5-speed transmission with hurst shifter. This is also a great upgrade on any vintage car, giving an overdrive gear for nice highway cruising. The t5 is bolted to a california pony cars bellhousing / adapter. There is an 11" clutch with mcleod pressure plate and mechanical linkage. The driveshaft is new, as is the 8" rear end with 3.25 gears. Finally there is the interior. Like the rest of the car, everything has been redone along with a few upgrades. The seats, carpet, headliner, and kick panels are all new. The trunk was carpeted as well. There are new white-faced gauges including a center mounted tachometer. Not to be overlooked is the beautiful custom woodwork on the gt-style instrument cluster, glove box, center console, and engine fan controller. This blends nicely with the grant steering wheel mounted on the tilt steering column. Also new are the seat belts, am/fm radio, and humphugger console. And last but not least, this Mustang has a complete vintage air setup with controls that look identical to the originals. This is another must-have upgrade that can provide ice cold air conditioning or plenty of heat, wherever you need it. The end result of all this time, effort, and money is a vintage Mustang you can drive without compromise. The ride is nice and tight, free of squeaks and rattles. The steering has a fantastic feel and the brakes are far superior to stock. There is plenty of power with a modern 5-speed gearbox. And the beautiful interior with a/c will keep you comfortable at all times. Why not spend a little more to get a classic car you can enjoy driving as much as showing? |
