The first shelby GT500 convertible did not appear until 1968. After contemplating buying a 1968 or later model shelby convertible, the owner of this GT500 tribute decided that he much preferred the elegant lines of the 1967 shleby GT500 coupe and decided to blend performance and beauty and have a 1967 GT500 convertible created. The project was completed by jordan quintal of super rides by jordan, one of the preeminent craftsman in the hot rod world and past winner esteemed ridler award. Super rides attention to detail is spectacular. The original 1967 convertible was a rust free california car that was completely rebuilt and transformed by super rides to beautiful shelby GT500 standards. This shelby is powered by a Ford 302 ci with aluminum heads, big valves, a roller cam, and msd ignition, and two 650 cfm holley's. The GT500 has a tremec 5-speed, 9" Ford rear end, performance suspension and shocks, and front and rear disc brakes. The shleby sits on fabulous looking 15 x 7" front and rear minilite trans-am alloy wheels. This shelby is an absolute thrill to drive, handling like a trans-am race car. The GT500 not only boasts trans-am performance, it is absolutley gorgeous, with spectacular paint, engine compartment, and interior. When the hood pins are pulled and the shelby hood is raised, jaws drop. Super rides transformed the GT500's engine bay into one of the most beautifully detailed of any shelby. The cobra air cleaner and valve covers, custom firewall, structural components, radiator shroud, custom tanks, and ancillary accessories in chrome and stainless steel combine to make this bay drop-dead beautiful. The GT500 wears dazzling ferrari rosso corsa red paint by best of show, escondido, ca. The interior is highlighted with a wood-rimmed shelby steering wheel and brushed aluminum dash facing with jme sport-comp black-faced gauges. The brushed aluminum door panels are complemented by saddle leather. The gorgeous saddle and black custom leather interior, masterfully done by the award winning armando's custom interiors, is a complement to the ferrari rosso corsa red paint. The front and rear saddle leather seats with black inserts and double stitching, as well as the dash with its black deck and saddle underside, were modeled after the ferrari 575 maranello daytona. Wool carpeting and racing seat bels add the final interior touches. The convertible top and trunk area also received armando's master's touch. The top material is tan german stayfast, the wonderfully durable canvas used by mercedes, porsche and bmw. The trunk compartment features the same gorgeous saddle leather and luggage strap design found on the 575 maranello. For california cruising, this shelby has an absolutley killer alpine and jl audio stereo sound system. Although this shleby has been shown only once, at a 1955-57 chevy show at san diego's embarcadero, its spectacular good looks and superb engineering won a compelling award.
