This 1968 Camaro provides a refreshing lesson in honesty. While other coupes from this desired year have been pulled apart and made into something else, this coupe has spent nearly a half-century untouched, and an affordable sportscar. Its hard to resist a Camaro in its original shade of nantucket blue. This one has not been made into something it is not, but it does show off that gm had a long option sheet. The striping, the auxiliary panel (i.e. Spoiler), and rally wheels were all desirable features on this car that could be ordered for any 1968 Camaro. The overall appearance is like a time capsule that reminds you of those days when you saw your first Camaro. It ignited something in you, because the styling was more aggressive, but just as affordable as the mustang. This is the model that truly started the pony car wars. Just like the exterior, the interior features two desirable os €“ originality and options. One example of this is the bucket seats that are still in their original blue vinyl. This shade matches the door panels, carpeting, headliner, and dash. All of this is in remarkable condition, and this sea of blue is not alone. The chrome accents are all in place, including the Camaro nameplates on the doors and the lockable glovebox. A welcomed introduction for the 1968 model year was the astro ventilation system. This not only helped get more fresh air into the car, but it also eliminated the need for vent windows in the front. So unlike the first year Camaro you now have the true pillarless look with all the windows rolled down. One upgrade to the interior over the years was an am/fm/cassette player. The knob-style radio fits well into the dark panels, so it provides an easy way to adapt for modern music players without ruining the interiors atmosphere. Under the hood is where this Camaro continues to show its personality, even after 45 years. The previous owners resisted fitting a v8 crate motor, and instead, the numbers-matching 230 cubic-inch inline six-cylinder has been carefully maintained over the last five decades. This resistance to change is what gives the car its unique personality today, but if putting a small block into the engine bay is the new owners thoughts...well, that would be money well invested as well. For a small price you could push this 1st gen. Camaro to the next level. The current engine is really a true cruiser, comfortable with seven main bearings and a factory-installed rochester carburetor. It will take you just about anywhere you like, and save on gas as well, all while looking sharp. This inline six is mated to an optional powerglide automatic transmission. Its such a smooth runner that it offers a kind of comfort not seen in many first-generation Camaros today. This is an affordable cruiser with great performance looks and a true Camaro pedigree. There are plenty of directions you could take a car that is harder and harder to find. Either way, its time to roll down all the windows and tour the countryside.
