Introduced in 1968, the 280SE firmly established Mercedes-Benz as the leader in medium priced luxury cars. Offered as a sedan, coupe and cabriolet, the cabriolet is a highly desirable combination of good performance from the 2,778cc overhead camshaft bosch fuel injected six-cylinder engine with 180 horsepower, luxurious interior appointments and excellent manners and responsiveness on the road. Based on a tight, rattle-free unit body, the 280SE offered four wheel independent suspension and front disc brakes. This 1968 Mercedes-Benz 280SE cabriolet is from the model's first year and is presented in light blue with dark blue leather upholstery and a matching dark blue cloth top and boot cover. It is equipped with a column shift 4-speed automatic transmission, blaupunkt am-fm radio, factory air conditioning, power windows, color-matched hubcaps, radial whitewall tires and a wooden tray between the comfortable front seats. It comes with its original jack and has new paint over a very nice, probably original, and pleasingly patinated leather interior with dark blue carpets. The top is similarly very good and the engine bay is thoughtfully detailed. The interior wood trim, which adds an element of luxury to the interior's ambience, is sound and highly presentable. This is a 280SE cabriolet that has never had, nor apparently needed, a full restoration, instead being attended to as needed to retain its excellent appearance and usefulness. Few 4-seat convertibles are as much fun or as rewarding to own and particularly to drive as this 1968 Mercedes-Benz 280SE cabriolet.
