| As the austin-healey 3000s long production run was coming to an end during the mid-1960s, bmc felt it needed another large, comfortable six-cylinder sports car in its lineup. At the same time, they liked the idea of a more powerful version of the hugely successful MG b. The two concepts were combined in 1967. Visibly quite similar to the MG b apart from a chrome-trimmed hood bulge and larger wheels, it was sold as an all-new model called the MG c. Underneath the bonnet was a 2,912 cc c-series straight-six, which in the MG c made 145 horsepower. Around the engine bay, room was made for the larger motor by giving it torsion bars and telescopic shock absorbers in place of the coil spring and wishbone front suspension on the MG b. The c enjoyed a top speed of 120 miles per hour, and though it was considerably faster than the b, it was only sold for two years. MG built around 9,000 examples, with around 4,200 of those coming to the united states. This 1969 MG c roadster is an exceptionally strong example that has received a fantastic ground up restoration done to incredibly high standards. Originally built in december of 1968, it is finished in its original primrose with black leather interior and has a black vinyl convertible top, overdrive, chrome wire wheels, rear luggage rack and an am/fm cd stereo system. Also included are many service receipts, extensive documentation and photos from its exhaustive restoration, a framed heritage certificate and both an original sales brochure and an owner€™s manual. The exquisite paint, chrome and interior are matched by the highly detailed trunk and engine compartment, giving this MG c the presentation of a much more valuable fully restored show car. The MG c car represents a fascinating chapter in the history of MG, and another example of such incredibly high quality as this one will be exceedingly difficult to find. |
