Only 400 GSX stage 1's were manufactured in 1970 and the 455ci GSX motor produced 510 ft-lbs of torque at 2,800 rpms, the highest torque rating of any american muscle car engine built that year. The stage 1 (a-1) option included larger valves with stronger springs, high lift cam, ported heads, modified carburetion, and low restriction exhaust. The GSX (a-9) option included performance hood with functional air-scoops feeding dual air-cleaner intakes, hood tachometer, front/rear spoilers, and left/right racing mirrors. Additional factory gs features on this particular example includes quick ratio power steering, power disc brakes, positraction rear end with 3.64 gearing, heavy duty front/rear springs, front stabilizer bar, rear anti-roll bar, and super wide oval g60-15 white lettered tires riding on chrome plated rally wheels. Other items of note include heavy duty 400 turbo hydra-matic transmission, instrument gauges, rally clock, rally steering wheel, and sonomatic radio with rear speaker.
