Year-in and year-out, few cars are as popular as the mighty Pontiac GTO. And if youre a fan of driving, this bright red 1970 Pontiac GTO hardtop offers everything youd want, ranging from a stout 400 cubic inch v8 to vivid red paint, all at a very appealing price. Having lived most of its life out west, the bodywork on this car is in great shape. Thats a big plus on a car thats 45 years old and it made the perfect foundation for the bright red paint. The cowl tag says this one was originally code 58 granada gold, but whos going to argue with how it looks today? The endura front bumper was a pretty big deal in 1970 and gives the goat a uniquely Pontiac look, and today it shows well with only minor signs of age and use, which only means its working as intended. The ram air hood and rear wing are both ways that this GTO suggests that you leave it alone on the street, although the black vinyl roof gives it a bit of formality and the contrast is very appealing. Correct GTO emblems and badges are in place and the bright chrome rear bumper is in excellent condition. The red bucket seat interior is an awesome choice when youre used to seeing plain old black all the time, and the high-back buckets look especially good in the performance-oriented GTO. This one seems to be pretty well loaded with options like factory a/c, power windows, and a tilt steering column, plus a later am/fm/cassette stereo system in the dash. The upholstery is in good shape and showing only minor signs of age and use, and it appears that the gauges themselves are original, more evidence of a nicely-kept car. Engine-turned dash panels are a Pontiac trademark and the three-spoke steering wheel is pure 1970s cool that practically screams performance. Oddly enough, this car has a column shifter, which is an odd choice on a GTO, but thats part of why muscle cars are so popular today; those odd combinations make some of them quite rare. You can see signs of clean west-coast living in the trunk, which appears to wear factory-applied spatter paint and some pretty darned nice sheetmetal. Despite what the air cleaner says, theres a strong-running Pontiac 400 cubic inch v8 under the hood and it delivers the kind of performance youd expect from the flagship GTO. Its a 1969 ram air iii engine with a pretty stout torque curve and its a neat fit in the goats satin black engine bay. It looks quite stock and unless youre a Pontiac expert, im guessing most folks will never notice the swap took place. Regardless, it runs well, pulls hard, and has a great eight cylinder growl from the recently replaced dual exhaust system underneath. Its backed by a rugged th400 3-speed automatic transmission and a 12-bolt rear end, so you dont have to worry about running it hard. You can see evidence of its life in california and arizona when you look underneath and it sits exactly right on a set of Pontiac rally ii wheels and 235/60/14 firestone radials. Documented with ownership history back to day one, phs paperwork, and a few other goodies, this is a great driver-grade goat thats ready to enjoy without the massive price tag. Call today!
